At Atlantia we make our products with 100% pure Aloe vera, from the Canary Islands. This distinguishes us from many other brands that offer cosmetics based on the same raw material, but without total purity. They are even sold at concentrations of 2%.

Distinguishing a product that contains pure Aloe vera is simple. The consumer can know what exactly they are buying, we give you the keys to differentiate them.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN THAT IT IS PURE ALOE VERA?

There are many products on the market that use their Aloe vera content as a claim. But it is important to distinguish between those that are made with Aloe vera juice and those that come from concentrate.

The Aloe vera juice from Atlantia products is obtained after peeling the leaves, pressing the pulp and filtering it to eliminate unwanted elements. The juice is cold stabilized to maintain its original properties.

In the case of Atlantia Aloe Gel, 96% is pure Aloe vera. The rest are natural preservatives necessary to preserve a product with such a high natural content and a gelling agent that gives it cosmeticity.

For its part, Aloe vera concentrate is a mixture of water and freeze-dried (powder) Aloe. To give us an idea, 1 gram of Aloe makes 200 ml. of a gel that they sell us as “pure”. But evidently it is not.

In Atlantia, with 190 ml. of pure Aloe vera juice, extracted directly from the plant, 200 ml are manufactured. of pure Aloe vera gel. During the process to which Aloe is subjected to obtain the powder, the original properties of the plant are lost.

Most manufacturers use powder, due to the cost and logistics savings it entails. It is more expensive to transport vats of pure Aloe vera juice than the already dehydrated powdered product, to which you only have to add water later.

WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE IF ALOE VERA IS PURE?

Aloe contains vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes. Also various secondary plant compounds and mono- and polysaccharides. The most important ingredient is Aloverosa or acemannan, a complex sugar that only occurs in the species “Aloe barbadensis Miller”. This element is essential to fix hydration.

In healthy skin, the difference between a pure product, with high levels of Aloverose, and one based on Aloe powder may not be noticeable to the naked eye, although it will be in the long run. But, when it comes to sensitive, damaged, irritated, burned skin, etc., the concentration of the active ingredients plays a very important role.

In the process of obtaining the powder, Aloe vera is subjected to heat. This means that it is denatured and leaves a large part of its properties behind.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT ALOE I AM BUYING?

When purchasing, you simply have to look at the label to know if the product contains pure Aloe vera or from concentrate.

The INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients), a list of ingredients normally located on the back of the product, is mandatory to label the formula of cosmetics.

This list shows the reality of the product and the ingredients are ordered from greatest to least quantity. The main ingredient in pure Ale Vera gel should be the first on the list, specified as Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice. In a concentrated Aloe vera gel, the ingredient that will appear first on the list will be WATER.
